Description:
Creeping or twining herb, often appearing more or less erect when small. Stems up to 40 cm long in erect plants or up to 1.5 m long in creeping or twining plants. Leaves opposite, triangular-ovate, cordate, often with hastate lobes at the base, more or less sparsely hairy, mostly on the veins beneath; margin entire or coarsely toothed; petiole 1-5.5 cm long, narrowly to broadly winged. Flowers axillary, solitary or rarely paired; bracteoles green with conspicuous, often brownish to purple veins, ovate, 1.7-2.5 cm long, cordate and distinctly 4-angular at the base. Corolla white, cream to orange without a purple throat. Capsule depressed globose with a beak 10-15 mm long, densely finely velvety.

Habitat: In woodland, bushland and grassland, often on sand.

Worldwide distribution: Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
