Description:
Large deciduous tree. Leaves crowded near the ends of branches, imparipinnate with 5-8 pairs of leaflets, each leaflet with a distinct narrow drip-tip. Flowers greenish and inconspicuous, produced in sparse panicles among the leaves. Fruit a woody capsule, up to 15 cm long, splitting into 5 valves, which curve back showing the winged seeds attached to a central column.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: caudatum: having a tail (caudum), referring to the long acumen of the leaflet.

Flowering time:Sep - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Southern Zambia and Malawi, to Mozambique, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
Growth form(s): Tree, shrub over 2 m.
