Description:
Vigorous liana-like, twining climber, growing from succulent tuber. Older stems woody; milky latex present. Leaves opposite, lanceolate-elliptic to narrowly ovate, stiffly leathery, dark green above with conspicuous, yellowish veining, paler below, hairless. Flowers in mostly terminal inflorescences. Corolla creamy-white, c. 3 cm in diameter in new flowers, with dense marroon spotting in the tube and throat; lobes with margins revolute. Corona green with the knob-like outer lobes fitted in the the sinuses of the corolla lobes. Fruit in paired cylindrical follicles, up to 9 × 2.5 cm, grooved or slightly winged.
Notes: We have a specimen record: Hines & Burke 1121 (2002, WIND) but this species is absent for Caprivi in Bruyns (2014) in Strelitzia 34 and Goyder et al. (2020) in Flora Zambesiaca.
Derivation of specific name: monteiroae: after Mrs Rose Monteiro, wife of Portuguese naturalist Joachim Monteiro, who collected plants in Angola and Mozambique.
Habitat: Dry woodland in rocky habitats on hills, mountains or cliff sides.

Worldwide distribution: Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini and South Africa.
