Description:
Perennial herb up to 40 cm high, growing from a small ovoid corm, attached to a knee-shaped tuber. Leaves several to numerous along the stem, narrowly linear, 7-14 cm long, folded, grading into small bracts. Flowers leaf-opposed on pedicels 2-3 cm long, greenish, yellow-green or brownish, usually with deep purple swellings at the base of the stamens. Capsule pendent, globose or pear-shaped, 1-2 cm long.

Habitat: On sandy soils in dry woodland.

Worldwide distribution: Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
