Shallow-roted herb to 1.3m. Leaves sheathing like Iris; base of leaves swollen, curved forwards. Flowers scattered up flowering shoots, open, non-tubular, bright blue. Ovary swollen. Very local.

Only young saplings seen

Grass to 40cm,tufted, hard to dig out. Inflorescence very narrow, purple-tinged, anthers hanging out. When seeding, glumes opening widely, very hairy, whitish.

Yellow-flowered form

Small herb about 10 cm high with closed yellow flowers. Leaves narrow, covered with whitish hairs. Tuberous root, white inside.

Small bulbous herb to 20 cm. Tuber round, fleshy. Leaves long, linear, hairy. Each flowering shoot with 2 yellow flowers.

Annual herb to 30cm. Few small narrow leaves, +/- leafless, basal leaves rounded. Flowers in terminal inflorescence, small, lilac.
