| Notes: | Herb; Notes: Annual herb, 40 cm high when in flower. Stem erect, slender, terete, green to red-tinted especially basally with very fine, white, adpressed indumentum. Nodular sheaths brown, membranous, circumcaulate, conspicuously fringed along margin, persistent. Leaves alternate, simple to pinnati-lobate; lamina linear to imparipinnatisect, margin entire but revolute, apex acute, base sheathed, up to 40 x 7 mm, dull green, glabrous. Flowers in lax axillary/terminal racemes, small, 8 mm in diameter, subtended by fringed, membranous bract. Perianth segments free, 5, ovate, 4 x 1.5 mm, cream-coloured. Pedicel at most 5 mm long. Fruit a capsule, obcuneate to deltoid, 2-3 spiny projections at base, 7 mm long, green, pubescent, floral remains persistent apically. |
