Leaves alternate, simple; stipules linear, paired, 2-3 mm long, caducous; petiole stout, 1.5-2 mm long, densely velutinous; lamina elliptic to obovate, up to 35 x 15 mm, apex acute, base obscurely rounded, margin denticulate, adaxially dark green, abaxially paler olive-green with prominent reticulate venation, both surfaces with brownish stellate indumentum affording a harsh, scabrous texture. Stems woody with red-brown bark peeling off in grey papery layers; lateral branchlets often geniculate, red-brown with dense brown indumentum. Leaves alternate, simple; petiole short, 2 mm long, densely pubescent; stipule linear, caducous; lamina ovate-elliptic, apex acute, base rounded, slightly oblique, margin denticulate, 35 x 20 mm, dull olive-green, adaxially sparsely pubescent, abaxially conspicuously pubescent especially along reticulate venation. Flowers clustered in 2-4 's, axillary, at most 15 mm in diameter. Petals 5, free, narrowly obovate, shorter than sepals. Sepals 5, free, yellow to yellow-green, pubescent, lanceolate, 10-12 mm long, strongly recurved. Stamens numerous, golden yellow in central cluster.
