Description: | Annual or perennial herb, sometimes scrambling, with stems up to 1.5 m long. Leaves sometimes immature or absent at time of flowering, ovate to linear-lanceolate, 1-8 cm long, rarely longer, pubescent mainly on midrib an margins. Inflorescences aggregated into a dense cylindric or subcapitate head. Bracts dark, often tinged purple, more or less unequal, oblong-oblanceolate to lanceolate, 5.5-16 mm long, with sparse to dense capitate glandular hairs towards the apex; margin and midrib often hairy; margin hyaline towards the base. Calyx lobes 2.5-5 mm long, glandular-puberulent, sometimes with a few hairs along the margin. Corolla 10-20 mm long, pink, purple or white, with purple guidelines, pubescent outside; tube 6-10.5 mm long; upper lip oblong, 6-11.5 mm long; lower lip obovate or elliptic, 6-10.5 mm long. Capsule 4.5-8mm long, finely velvety and sometimes with short glandular hairs towards the apex. | |
