Annual or perennial herbs,climbing, prostrate or erect. Stipules and stipels present. Leaves (1-)3-foliolate; Flowers axillary, fasciculate or in false racemes. Calyx 4-5-lobed, the 2 upper lobes joined to form an entire or 2-fid lip. Corolla yellow or whitish-greenish-yellow, sometimes marked with a little reddish-purple, glabrous; standard with 2 long linear lamelliform appendages. Stigma with a terminal ring of hairs. Ovary 3-13-ovulate. Pods straight or curved, flattened. Worldwide: 24 species in tropical Africa, Madagascar, Mascarenes and the Indian subcontinent. Caprivi: 10 cultivated taxa. |
