Trailing or climbing perennial herbs. Leaves pinnately 3-foliolate. Flowers usually in pairs or clusters along axillary axes. Calyx 5-lobed, the upper pair fused or not. Standard glabrous apart from occasional hairs at the centre. Alternate stamens sterile, lacking anthers. Ovary with many ovules, often with a tuft of hairs at the apex surrounding the style. Style with a capitate stigma. Pods elongate, linear, distinctly upturned at the apex. Worldwide: 8 ill-defined species, pantropical Caprivi: 5 cultivated taxa. |
