Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Stipules amplexicaul, connate. Leaves: lamina palmate. Male flowers in branched spike-like clusters. Male flowers: tepals 3-4; stamens 3-4. Female inflorescences spherical-capitate; perianth 2-3-lobed. Fruit with a woody endocarp.

Worldwide: 7 species in tropical Africa

Caprivi: 2 cultivated taxa.
