Description of the genus

Evergreen trees; leaves paripinnate, leaflets with distinct petiolules, in 3−5 pairs, subequal in size; flower borne on large terminal panicles; flower buds enclosed in a pair of bracteoles; petals 5, the dorsal much the largest, white; pod large, woody, compressed, explosively dehiscent. The leaves are not easily distinguished from those of Isoberlinia.

Worldwide: 15 species in tropical Africa, 2 species in the Flora Zambesiaca region, 1 species in Zambia.

Caprivi: 1 cultivated taxon.
