Description of the genus

Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate, entire, rather coriaceous. Flowers in subumbellate cymes or solitary. Calyx deeply 5-lobed; lobes slightly imbricate. Petals 5, united nearly to the apex, valvate with inflexed tips. Stamens 5, alternating with the petals and adnate to them for most of their length. Ovary with a somewhat excentric style. Fruit an oblong-ellipsoid drupe.

Worldwide: Six species in tropical Africa.
