Description of the genus

Erect perennial herbs, with usually solitary simple stems. Inflorescences umbel-like, arising terminally and from upper axils. Corolla campanulate, deeply lobed. Corona 5-lobed, often fleshy, shortly united at base and attached to staminal column. Style head 5-angled. Pollinaria with caudicles shorter and narrower than the pollinia. Follicle usually 1, erect, ovate-lanceolate in outline, not spiny.

Worldwide: 2-3 species in tropical and South Africa

Caprivi: 2 cultivated taxa.
