Description of the genus

Lianes or climbing shrubs, with milky latex. Leaves opposite. Stipules paired, triangular. Inflorescences of terminal, umbellate cymes. Calyx lobes free to base. Corolla salver-shaped; tube cylindric; lobes overlapping to the right. Stamens inserted at about the middle of the corolla. Ovary of 2 free carpels. Fruit of 2 follicles. Seeds linear-flattened, with an apical tuft of hairs.

Worldwide: 26 species in tropical Africa and Madagascar

Caprivi: 1 cultivated taxon.
