Description:
Scrambling or trailing herb with stems up to 1 m long, occurring in riverine fringes. Leaves heart-shaped, roughly hairy; margin with coarse teeth in the basal part; petiole 15-60 mm long, not winged. Flowers white to pale orange with a yellow centre; corolla tube up to 2 cm long, clasped in green leaf-shaped bracts.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: dregeana: after Johann Franz Drège (1794-1881), German horticulturalist, botanical collector and explorer who worked extensively in South Africa.
Habitat: Woodland, riverine fringe vegetation, along roadsides and sometimes in old cultivated areas.
Flowering time:Oct - Apr
Worldwide distribution: Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa.
Growth form(s): Climber.
