Description of the genus

Perennials. Inflorescence a single bottle-brush raceme with mostly reflexed spikelets borne on slender pedicels. Spikelets with many florets, laterally flattened, falling entire. Glumes 1-nerved, unequal. Lemmas 3-nerved, acuminate.

Worldwide: 2 species occurring in E and NE Africa and Arabia

Caprivi: 1 cultivated taxon.
