Description of the family

Shrubs or small trees. Stipules 0. Leaves alternate, entire (in ours) . Flowers bisexual or unisexual, actinomorphic. Sepals 5, united at the base. Petals 5, united at least at the base, usually with reflexed tips. Ovary superior, 1-locular; ovules 2. Fruit a drupe.

Worldwide: 5 genera and 41 species in the tropics.

Caprivi: 1 cultivated genus and 1 cultivated taxon.
